Bye Uncle Sonny!

The family was sitting down to a late dinner last night, eager to munch on some food and of course, watch American Idol. Not a few minutes later, we would receive a call that would make our jaws drop. Uncle Sonny had died. Of a heart attack. Just like that.

I was really in shock. Uncle Sonny is one of Louie's dad's cousins from San Francisco who was here on vacation. He'd been at living with Louie's aunts for the past month and he was here last year for about 5 months, so we really got to know him. He was cool, everything you wouldn't expect from a 60-something year old. He was a really nice guy.

I wasn't at the office for lunch yesteryday so I missed the chance to have a last lunch with him. Apparently, Uncle Sonny had baked some torte dessert and gave everyone a chance to taste it! I got to the office after lunch, said hi and talked with him for a really short while as he was putting the desserts in the fridge. And now, he's gone.

I know he was having a great time here, seeing old friends and all. I also know he went quickly, which to me gives me some comfort.

Now its a whirlwind of preparation for the wake. My aunts took care of everything. He's off to San Francisco on Monday if the clearance from the US embassy comes in.

I told Chloe that Lolo Sonny had died too, here's how that went. (Chloe's Blog)

Anyway, wherever you are, Uncle Sonny, I hope you're having a good laugh. We'll miss your company, your wisecracks and your smile.

The One

To the one who still holds my hand going down the escalator
at the mall

To the one who lets me decide where we should eat when we go out
To the one who tells me to calm down after I've gotten off the phone with my Mom
To the one who entertains Chloe before going to bed
when I'm dog tired

To the one who still stays on the traffic side of the road when we cross the street

Happy Valentine's Day to my Louie who makes it all worthwhile.

The Bad News Is...

I totally feel like crap. These pregnancy blues are god-damn awful! I mean, I knew how this first trimester was going to change my energy levels, but damn! I've never felt so tired in my whole life.

I came from the OB-GYN today. I'm lucky in the sense that I have a fairly hip and great medical practitioner guiding me through pregnancy. I burst out laughing when she told me that these ill physical feelings are "God given". I guess to experience the joy at the end of the pregnancy, you really need to go through hell at the beginning (wait, there's also hell at the end in order to actually have the baby!) The highlight of my OB visit was the weigh-in. Now I have been eating (what seems to be nonstop) for the past 4 weeks. I'm always hungry. I'm always tired. Now why would the weigh-in be the highlight? Well, I was expecting to tip the scales a good 10 pounds heavier... instead it turns out I lost 2 pounds. I'm like, "How?" I kicked the scale a bit to make sure it wasn't broken. And hey, it wasn't! Anyway, I asked the OB about it, and she said, it happens a lot in the first trimester because your body actually needs all the extra calories. Come to think of it, when I had Chloe, I don't think I gained any weight until the 3rd month. Hmmmmm...

But dang, am still so tired. The other funny moment today was when the OB told me that all the physical crappiness I feel peaks at 70-90 days. I was like, "What? You mean to tell me this gets worse before it gets better?" I'm like 56 days. Ack!

So what have I been eating... hmmm, lechon manok, paella, bacon and of course the ever popular bacon and cheese baked potato from Wendys! Funny, that last item was a staple from the Chloe pregnancy as well. Except we were in Midland, Michigan.

I can't seem to get proper rest. I mean, I try to sleep, but its not the quality sleep that I really want.

Oh well, we're looking at 3 weeks or so, before it gets worse. I'll hang in there. *grumble*

The Good News Is...

8 weeks down, 30 weeks more to go until the next bundle of joy comes crashing in.
